Ham Radio Deluxe is a CAT control program created by Simon Brown (HB9DRV) and Peter Halpin (PH1PH). It is a suite of four integrated programs available for free download from http://hb9drv.ham-radio.ch. All the integrated programs are contained within the one download file.

The software is free for use by radio amateurs and shortwave listeners. Registration is optional and without cost. You are asked to register only so that the authors have some idea of just how popular the package is. If you like what you find please make a donation to your own national radio society to promote Amateur Radio in schools.

Although your particular radio may not be supported, this is only for digital control. You can still use the other components of the software.

There are a number of other files that should be downloaded from http://hb9drv.ham-radio.ch/downloads/ at the same time as they contain a wealth of interface and other information from which you could benefit.

AuxiliarySwitching.pdf - A guide to using the parallel port.

CATbox.pdf - A modular computer interface by Bas Helman G4TIC.

HRD Remote Server.pdf - The HRD Remote Server enables a connection between Ham Radio Deluxe and a radio connected to a remote computer which can be contacted via TCP/IP.

Interfaces.pdf - A basic guide to CAT and Audio interfacing.

Satellites.pdf - A description of the satellite data generation and data tracking components of Ham Radio Deluxe.

CommandTester.pdf - In a project like Ham Radio Deluxe it is not always possible for the developers to have every radio available for their own use: it’s very expensive and takes up too much room. This is where the user community helps - by using the Command Tester individual commands can be tested by the users of Ham Radio Deluxe and the results sent to the developers as a text file in a standard format.

The installed radio used for this manual is a Yaesu FT-847, except for where I had to resort to one of the ®Dem-o-Matic® models for more information, so some of the details may not directly relate to your particular radio as a number of functions are radio-specific. Simply put, if your radio does not have a command for it, it is impossible for Ham Radio Deluxe to get it to do it. This operating guide is an ongoing development and may not be completely in step with any new or existing release at any time.
